Feral Beauty: A Butoh Ritual Retreat
Beauty
Is not just an aesthetic.
It is not just something we witness, taste, consume or make.
It is an intuitive language. It is a magical force. It is a being we can learn to court.
It is something we can give our bones to in the night, an altar we can offer our sweat and tears, and upon which we can stretch our skin like flags of prayer. Butoh and Ritual Dance offer very unique codes into this language of beauty.
It is a wild and courageous lineage which has flung itself into the deepest waters of paradox, into the immaculate tension with life and death, absurdity and revelation, terror and delight, togetherness and solitude, and the revolt of the flesh against the colonizing mind.
Here, at these crossroads of paradox, we come together to question, to catalyze, to create.
We come together as a radical act of embodied liberation.
We come together simply: to touch, to commune, to dance with the numinous nature of existence.
What We'll Do:
Enter into moving meditations, psychic and physical limitations, and poetic provocations
Explore the body as landscape, working with states of crisis and beauty
Move from sensation and image rather than external form
Work with the natural landscape as teacher and partner
Weave these together in a ritual score
Performance Opportunity:
This work will seed a collaborative performance two weeks following, open to those called to continue.
